One more time, Hunter hopes for the Twins

BOSTON -- A month ago, Torii Hunter stood in the clubhouse at Fenway Park and said he dreamed of a Angels-Twins American League Championship Series.

Sunday, with champagne dripping into his eyes after the Angels held up their half of the bargain, Hunter once again dreamed out loud.

"I'm rooting for the Twins," he said, after his Angels had dispatched the Red Sox with a 7-6 sweep-ending win. "I hope the Twins can turn it around."

The last time he said that , the Twins trailed the Tigers by 5 1/2 games in the AL Central, with just 17 games to play. This time, the Twins might be even more desperate, down two games to none in a best-of-5 series with the Yankees, heading into Sunday night's Game 3.

Hunter has played 629 games in the Metrodome, more than all but three other players.

He still has hopes of two or three more.

*****

If the Angels don't play Hunter's Twins, they'll play Bobby Abreu's Yankees. But unlike Hunter, Abreu insisted Sunday he doesn't care at all who's next on the schedule.

"I'll be honest with you, it doesn't matter to me," he said.

Hunter is a class act, a joyful and extremely talented competitor and was a blast to pull for when he was a Twin.  It's been great  cheering for him in the Angels-Sox series, no surprise he brought it so far.   I hope he's right in this (it would be great!); but either way, nicely done and good luck this postseason Hunter.  You play the game right.

Oh i forgot, the MLB does have it's playoffs going on today.
That was a great soccer match last night.  US qualifyies for the most popular sporting event in the world, the World Cup 2010.

MLB...  zzzzz....  wake me up when the world cup is on.

Yeah - that World Cup action is great...  guys run around for two hours accomplishing nothing, roll around like they are dying every time they get touched, only to get up and run around like again like nothing happened.

Popular? So was Millli Vanilli back in the day - fraudulent musicians. Fraudulent sport. Just because something is popular doesn't make it good. Usually it's just because it's admirers don't know any better.

Look, I tried to like soccer during the last World Cup, mostly because snobby "more worldly" people made me feel guilty for not giving something that the rest of the world liked so much a chance. Well, I did give it a chance and realized that the sport sucks. I mean really sucks. I'll watch a 1-0 baseball game any day because there is likely to be a potential game changing and relevant moment every inning. Soccer can go on and on and on and on and on without a single impactful moment.

Oh, and GO ANGELS! Now that the Twinkies are done, I'll be happy to root for Torri.
