Halladay: No list of acceptable teams

ST. LOUIS -- Don't bother trying to get Roy Halladay to tell you which team he'd like to be traded to, or which teams he would accept a trade to.

Besides saying that he wants to be with a team that has a chance to win, he's not going to say.

"Out of respect to Toronto, I just hate to put the cart in front," Halladay said, during a lengthy interview session in the American League clubhouse before tonight's All-Star Game.

Pressed for his opinion on various teams, Halladay simply repeated that winning is his priority. He seemed surprisingly comfortable with the questions, and even said he would be all right with not being traded by July 31, even if it meant continuing questions about a possible trade during the winter.

"I'm in a great situation in Toronto," he said. "I like it there. Because of that, it's not something you really push for. There's no bad situations."

Halladay said his All-Star teammates haven't pressed him about his future.

"Just jokingly," he said. "I've never been a person who had to be wooed. I know what I'm looking for."

= COMPLETE CLASS  Just imagine if all ball players reacted the way he does. There would be no need to think bout anything but baseball. If you go Roy it will be a sad day in franchise history ... but you deserve to play on a contender. Maybe we'll find some money somewhere before u go and we can bring in a couple of bats, and another starter or two, o9-maybe 2010?? ..or i could win the lottery!!

Blue Jays Sitting Pretty

The Blue Jays are in the driver's seat on this one.  And they are smart to get the salivation starting now -- a full year before they have to sign/trade Halladay.

Obviously the Blue Jays are not in a desperate situation and therefore they can wait for someone else to get desperate -- like my beloved Yankees and hated BoSox -- and then listen to offers, waiting to see how much someone is willing to "overpay".

The Yankees "need" Halladay much more than Boston does and would lose their minds if they thought they would have to face Halladay & Beckett four times in a seven game series.  The Yankees are also much more likely to take Vernon Wells as part of the deal (salary dump) which might just be the clincher.

The flip side to this is that Toronto already has to face Burnett in the AL East and would really hate to see Halladay 4 to 6 times too so the overpayment factor would have to be that much higher to let him go to a division rival.  Phillies, Mets, Dodgers, and Cubs would be able to overpay a lot less (or not at all) to pick him up.

And as always in the "no-trade" era -- Halladay may nix anybody he doesn't like.

I am sure Blue Jay fan is hating to see "Doc" leave but if they can pry two blue chippers like Hughes and Melancon from the Yankees and then throw in Vernon Wells for Melky/Gardner they will have reloaded their pitching staff and centerfield with younger, much cheaper talented/quality replacements allowing them to spend money in other areas -- $31M a year (Wells -- $18M, Doc -- $13M) will buy a lot more now than it did 2 years ago.

The next two weeks will be interesting.

Last Night was the first time I ever saw Roy halliday pitch. He looked pretty hittable. Does he have have a change-up? Cause i didn't see one.

he has 6 pitches including a nasty slider..  While anyone is hittable at times he is a great pitcher. don't dismiss his stats (and I'm a Yankees fan):

this is from 2005 to present

2005: 12 - 4 , 2.41 era 108 strike outs
2006: 16-5, 3.19 era 132 strike outs
2007: 16-7, 3.71 era 139 strike outs
2008: 20-11 2.78 era 205 strike outs
2009: 10-3 2.85 era 106 strike outs

And those stats are in the AL East!!  hope he goes to the Brewers for a playoff push just like CC last year.  At least they'd have one more year of him instead of just a 3 month rental.

Hey DXNJ it's nice to see an honest Yankee fan.  Roy would be a #1 starter on any team in MLB.  Hopefully we get rid of Wells in any deal.  If it means losing a little in return so be it.  I would like to get a bonafide starter, reliever and an outfielder.

Come on GNR, we both know that statement right there eliminates the Chicago White Sox. Just ask Jake Peavy.
