D-Rose is gonna have to improve his defense

Turns out there might be a good reason for Derrick Rose not holding a press conference to announce his NBA plans.

You know, besides the whole he's-really-shy thing.

Which is not to suggest Rose isn't really shy, because he is really shy. Anybody who has ever seen the freshman basketball star in front of a camera knows that to be true. But multiple sources close to the Memphis basketball and football programs have told CBSSports.com that Rose was recently involved in an altercation over a girl with Tiger football player Steven Black, an altercation that -- how to phrase this? -- didn't go so well for Rose. Put another way, the possible No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft spent the early part of this week looking like a person who had just been in a scrap, making the way he announced his future plans -- through a release distributed by the Memphis Sports Information department -- convenient, if not necessary.

That's the bad news.

Here's the good news (in bullet points):
  • Rose is not said to be seriously injured.
  • Nobody was arrested or charged with a crime.
  • The altercation did not happen anywhere near the Plush Club.
So in the end it seems what we have is two college guys scrapping over a girl. But this is still a story that provides the kind of Just Like Us moment highlighted in US Weekly, the kind of moment that proves even basketball stars/future millionaires have girl problems. In that way, they are indeed just like us -- except, of course, with better crossovers and earning potential.

Wow the Tiger Football team getting national press.... a first since Gary's big break: ALBERT MEANS  Off the subject but worthy of talk on Geoff and Gary(again)

Build an on campus football stadium, fire Shirley and R.C. for not getting us into a BCS conference- hello SEC I here that Ole Miss is sucking at practically every sport that matters( I know they made the NIT) and just got rid of Coach O (Colonel Reb will still be crying cause Nutt isn't gonna save that program)  So why not put Memphis in the SEC- they (UofM and SEC) will both benefit in the only way that they care about- monetarily

I am an SEC alum/fan and a Memphis resident, and while I definately like to see Memphis do well in basketball, I am tired of dissillusioned Memphis fans spouting off about how they believe they are actually worthy of being included in quire

No offense to Memphis, however, you are living a dream if you think a commuter school of only marginal academic and athletic standards (with the exception of the Men's basketball program) would be invited to quite possibly the most successful (academic and athletic) and profitable conference in the nation.  I do not believe that a city school like Memphis can rationally believe it deserves to be included in a BCS conference with flagship state universities of a much higher caliber.  You can drop Ole MIss from the SEC, that would be just fine with me, but it would not be Memphis in line to take its place.

Maybe hes not the best defensive player, but with his abilities at the size he is, it is hard to pass on him.

Dude, I LOVE US Weekly.

My guilty pleasure is celebrity news, to the point where I'd almost rather talk about Kevin Federline than Kevin Love. It's a problem I plan on fix someday, perhaps by the time Kevin's and Britney's children graduate high school (assuming they actually graduate high school).
