Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Dominic James' season-ending injury wasn't season-ending after all.

“I don't know how much he'll be able to contribute,” Marquette coach Buzz Williams said after announcing early Sunday that his senior point guard has been cleared to return to action after breaking the fifth metatarsal on his left foot Feb. 25. James had surgery Feb. 27, began rehabbing immediately, and will now be in uniform Sunday when the Golden Eagles play Missouri in the second round of the NCAA tournament, this despite the school initially declaring his college careeer complete.

“The thing that I'm excited about is we're going to give him an opportunity to close out his career in the best way he possibly could," Williams said. "And I think the recovery has been due in large part to his work, but also because of the wisdom of Ernest (Eugene) and Dr. (Darrin) Maccoux."

James is averaging 11.4 points and 5.1 assists.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Well if anything I hope this provides at the least an emotional boost to the team.  It is going to be a hard fought game and any little edge we can get will be good.  Maybe McNeal breaks out of his shooting slump with James return.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Missouri's no longer a lock to win this game.

Still, I'm not picking Marquette to win.  Or I wouldn't be if I was picking today (which I didn't).

Good news for James, but I'm not sure it'll translate into anything on the court.  I like seeing the Big East teams win, but Missouri looks pretty tough.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

I don't think this means much, he hasn't played in a month, and mizzou is a good team regardless. I think they are just trying to let him suit up for his last game ever, which is cool it would suck to have to sit out during the tourney. Saying he is cleared to play after midnight is not a great sign that he will be able to do much. I hope he does well, and can contribute, cause there is nothing worse than being hurt and not able to play because of an injury.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

This is good for marquette only if James can play somewhere near a 100% level. I don't think he has to be 100%, but if he's close to it, Marquette's chances just increased. with that being said, I still think Mizzou is going to be a tough match up with our without James, but it's nice to see that he's getting a chance to play out his sr. year and not have to watch it.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

First off Missouri was never a lock to win this game. When the Marquette guards are hitting their three pointers they provide a tough matchup against any team. I have witnessed the difference in  Marquette's play without James and believe me they are much better with him. James is a much better creator for the offense since he can beat his man off the dribble and provide a lot of good assist opportunities. He a superior athlete to Acker. Since James has been gone Wes Mathews and Jerel McNeal's shooting stats have dropped and I directly attribute that to McNeal getting them a lot of clean crisp passes for open looks. I think this will be one heck of a game.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

this is huge. even though he will need to shake off the rust, just his presence will be a big factor. now mizzou will need to at least take a look at this into their game plan. i think the youth for the tigers will show in this one. i believe marquette wins and even if they dont  its great that dom can play one more on his way out...go eagles

I am a Pitt fan but I am very happy for him.  James is a senior and now he can leave college playing.  I hope he can help his team win a game or two and go out on a good note.  I felt really bad for Cook on our team last year.  Cook was a senior also and Pitt was undefeated at the time and he got hurt during the game we beat Duke and never was able to play.  Tough way to end your senior season.  I am glad James does not have to end it that way.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Wow, shocking news. I don't think any of us expected to see him play again. If he is anywhere near 100 percent, he could have a big impact on the game today. He may be very rusty but he surely will provide an emotional boost just by being on the court.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

I'm a Uconn fan, and I'm just happy to see James back on the court.

When any player goes down I'm pretty sad, but James was a great senior and to see what everyone thought was a season ending injury against Uconn earlier this season, i was devestated, but it will be great to see him play at least one more game before his collegiant career is over

Glad I believed in the rest of their team when I filled out my bracket.
