(UWIRE) SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Texas State women's golf team finished a tournament in the top five for the second time this season. Individually, Linn Gustafsson, undecided freshman, also finished among the top five individuals.
She tied for fourth with a score of 224. Sehee Kim, undecided freshman, finished in a tie for 19th with a total score of 231 and 8 shots over par. Trine Mortensen, undecided freshman, finished 23rd at 9-over-par in her final round.
Kim said the course was enjoyable, but weather conditions made the tournament difficult.
"The golf course was great and I enjoyed being there with my team," Kim said. "Because of the bad weather in Arkansas, the green was in a bad shape, and the fairways were very wet. It was windy, up to 25 mph on the last day, so it was hard to control my shots."
Kim said she will focus on putting and playing her best until the end of the semester.
Caitlin Bliss, athletic training freshman, finished 7 shots over par with a score of 236. She tied for 32nd. Adin Stromgren, undecided freshman, finished with a score of 219.
The team finished in a tie for fourth place at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Golf Classic held at the Diamante Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Bobcats shot a score of 918, including a third-round score of 309 at the par-72, 5,971-yard course.
Coach Mike Akers said the team did itself a great favor by maintaining its position throughout the holes.
"We had a nice showing at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock," Akers said. "We were two shots out of first after 36-holes. It is great to put yourself in contention to win on the final day. The more times you can get in that position, the better you will be able to handle it."
Akers said the freshmen class continues to perform well.
"Yes, our freshmen class is ranked No. 1 in the country, and has been for most of the season," Akers said. "Linn had a nice finish and is getting her game back (in) the form she showed in the fall. Sehee and Trine also posted 72's, (which) is a great sign heading into the final stretch of the season."
Bliss said being a freshmen does not affect her ability to play golf.
"I really don't think our age has anything to do with our ability to play golf," Bliss said. "We all have had national experience and are good players, though it is a good feeling to know we are ranked very high for being mostly freshmen."
