Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 10-5 loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Vientos hit a solo homer off Slade Cecconi in the fifth inning then singled and scored a run in the ninth. After posting three hits Friday, Vientos followed it up with another multi-hit effort that included his third home run in his past eight games. With Brett Baty being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, it appears Vientos will have a chance to stake his claim at third base for the Mets. On the season, Vientos now has 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 190 plate appearances between Triple-A and the majors.... See More ... See Less

Mets' Mark Vientos: Looks like everyday third baseman
Vientos is expected to serve as the Mets' everyday third baseman after the club optioned Brett Baty to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Baty had started at third base in four of the Mets' previous five matchups versus right-handed pitchers, but the 24-year-old was unable to break out of his extended slump at the plate. He ends his time on the Mets' 26-man active roster having hit just .132 over his last 15 games, leaving Vientos as the big club's top option at the hot corner against both right- and left-handed pitching. Though he's an inferior defender compared to Baty, Vientos has been the far more effective hitter of the two at the big-league level this season, posting a .945 OPS over 48 plate appearances for the Mets. With Baty at least temporarily removed from the mix and a path to regular at-bats having been cleared up, Vientos makes for a worthy pickup for fantasy managers seeking an infusion of power.... Mets' Mark Vientos: Absent from lineup
Vientos is not in the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Dodgers. It will be Brett Baty handling third base and being tasked with trying to solve right-hander Tyler Glasnow. Vientos figures to be in the lineup for the nightcap against Gavin Stone.... See More ... Mets' Mark Vientos: On bench again Sunday
Vientos is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. Though Vientos had seemed to overtake Brett Baty as the Mets' preferred third baseman earlier in the week, he now finds himself on the bench for the second straight day versus a right-handed starting pitcher (Logan Webb). Since getting a call-up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 15, Vientos has posted a 1.134 OPS in seven games, but he still looks like he'll be part of a timeshare at the hot corner with Baty.... Mets' Mark Vientos: Getting Saturday off
Vientos isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game versus the Giants, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. The Mets will give Vientos a day off after the third baseman belted his third home run of the season during Friday's loss. Brett Baty will man the hot corner and bat eighth while Vientos sits.... Mets' Mark Vientos: Drawing another start at third base
Vientos will start at third base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game in Cleveland, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Vientos earned another start at the hot corner after homering and doubling in Tuesday's loss to the Guardians. Both starts have come against right-handed pitching, which is notable since he and the left-handed-hitting Brett Baty had been in a strict platoon. Vientos is slashing .360/.407/.720 in eight games with the Mets this season.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Home run, double vs. Guardians
Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to Cleveland. Vientos got the Mets on the board in the fifth inning with a 430-foot bomb off Xzavion Curry before doubling in the sixth and scoring a second run on a Jeff McNeil homer. The 24-year-old Vientos is now 6-for-18 with four extra-base hits in five games since he was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. With Brett Baty struggling to a .180/.255/.320 slash line in May, Vientos could be in line for more playing time at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Two hits in return to majors
Vientos went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies. Called back up form Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the day, Vientos got the start at third base against lefty Ranger Suarez and made an immediate impact, driving home Francisco Lindor with a first-inning double. Vientos' time in the majors could last a little longer this time after he was up for about a week in late April, but the 24-year-old could still see limited action and is expected to serve mainly as a short-side platoon option at the hot corner behind Brett Baty. Through 31 games at Triple-A this year, Vientos is slashing .284/.376/.500 with six homers and 30 RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Summoned from Triple-A
The Mets recalled Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. He'll assume the 26-man active roster spot of infielder Joey Wendle, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Vientos will likely be limited to a short-side platoon role at third base behind the lefty-hitting Brett Baty while he's up with the big club.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Promotion imminent
The Mets will recall Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Vientos has slashed .233/.343/.400 across 35 plate appearances since being sent down to Triple-A on April 30, and he will now return to New York -- presumably forming a platoon at third base with Brett Baty. Vientos went 3-for-7 with a two-run homer during his first stint in the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Launches walk-off homer
Vientos went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 4-2 extra-innings win over the Cardinals. Vientos entered the contest as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth, notching a single. He came back to the plate in the 11th, when he plated Harrison Bader on a game-winning two-run home run. While Vientos was called up to fill the hole left by Starling Marte's (personal) absence, he could earn a permanent big-league spot if he continues to rake.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Up from Triple-A
The Mets recalled Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Vientos has slashed .302/.388/.525 across 98 plate appearances in Triple-A, and he'll now join the big-league club as Starling Marte (personal) steps away from the team. Vientos will likely head back to Syracuse following Marte's return.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Swats first homer of spring
Vientos went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. Starting at third base and batting fifth, the 24-year-old took Matthew Liberatore deep in the second inning for his first long ball of the spring. The Mets are looking for Vientos to take a step forward this season after he stumbled to a .211/.253/.367 slash line over 233 plate appearances in 2023 with a 30.5 percent strikeout rate, but it's not yet clear if he'll have a consistent spot in the lineup or split his time between third base and DH while also occasionally spelling Pete Alonso at first base.... Mets' Mark Vientos: Out Sunday with sore foot
Vientos (foot) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. Vientos will take a seat for the series finale after he went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk before exiting Saturday's 8-7 loss with a sore right foot. The Mets will have Labor Day off, so Vientos will get two days to move past the foot injury before the team opens its two-game set in Washington on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Comes off injured list
The Mets activated Vientos (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll start at third base and bat eighth in the Mets' series finale with the Angels. Vientos will be back in action Sunday after missing exactly 10 days due to left wrist tendinitis. The 24-year-old has posted a disappointing .195/.230/.288 batting line across 126 major-league plate appearances this season, but he should play regularly down the stretch as the Mets look ahead to 2024 and beyond.... Mets' Mark Vientos: Expected back Sunday
Vientos (wrist) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Vientos played in a rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, and it's apparently the only one he will need. The rookie infielder has been out since mid-August with left wrist tendinitis. He had been seeing regular action at third base before the injury and should return to playing almost every day.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Begins rehab assignment
Vientos (wrist) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, MLB.com reports. Vientos doubled, drew a walk and scored a pair of runs while playing 10 innings at third base in his first rehab game. He is eligible for activation Saturday and it sounds like his return to the Mets is imminent. Vientos has been out since mid-August with left wrist tendinitis.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Goes on IL with sore wrist
Vientos was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Aug. 16, with left wrist tendinitis, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Imaging scans taken Wednesday showed no structural damage, but Vientos will rest his wrist until at least late next week. Jonathan Arauz and Danny Mendick will likely share time at third base in his absence. Arauz is getting the start there in the Mets' series opener Thursday against the Cardinals.... See More ... Mets' Mark Vientos: Out again with sore wrist
Vientos (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's series opener at St. Louis. Vientos missed Wednesday's series finale against the Pirates due to left wrist discomfort, but an MRI showed only inflammation and it seems like he'll be able to avoid the injured list. Jonathan Arauz is covering third base for the Mets on Thursday against the Cardinals. Daniel Vogelbach will fill the DH role.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Mark Vientos: Steps out of starting nine
Vientos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates. Jonathan Arauz will get the nod at third base for the series finale while Vientos gets a breather following a stretch of 10 consecutive starts. Though Vientos has taken hold of an everyday role in the aftermath of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, he's provided little value for fantasy managers. On the month, Vientos is hitting just .154 with no home runs, two RBI, one run and no stolen bases in 14 games.... See More ... See Less
